romney released a new ad defending himself. >> obama took gm and chrysler into bankruptcy and sold chrysler to the italians who will build jeeps in china. mitt romney will fight for every american job. >> reporter: john kasich said the bailout impact on ohio has been overstated. >> when you take into account the companies and suppliers you're up 400 jobs. we didn't grow ohio's economy on just one industry. >> but his predecessor pushed back. >> i believe that the table was set by president obama and ohioans recognize that and i think that's why the president is going to win ohio. >> reporter: both campaigns in the wake of sandy have called off fundraising, emails and any fundraising events in any of the affected states. mitt romney's campaign put out word he spoke with the republican governors of states impacted on the storm,er name dropped chris christie and bob mcdonnell. the president will be in the situation room dealing with fema and that fallout. this is the october surprise but we don't know what it all means in eight days. savannah? >> chuck todd, thank you. joe scarborough

. auto makers like chrysler, ford, gm, will report october sales later today. sales are forecast to rise 11% from a year ago, which would make it the best october for the industry since 2007. analysts say monday's superstorm on the east coast likely led to the loss of about 100,000 vehicles. dealers should be able to make that up this month. and sandy may have been very bad news for homeowners, but it's bringing some good news to the residential construction sector. "the new york times" reports construction companies will be getting a lot of business. flood waters are pumped out of the neighborhood, power lines are restored and roads are clear of debris. they'll also be able to hire lots of workers. many of whom have been idle due to the housing slump over the past five years. guys, it's interesting to note that lumber futures on the chicago mercantile exchange soared yesterday. the trade there is framing lumber used mainly in home construction. >> thank you. >>> sam's club is helping recharge those left in the dark by sandy, a total of 18 sam's clubs in five states including maryla

sold chrysler to italians that are going to build jeeps in china. a lot of push back from the obama campaign. the ad was dismissed by our last guest. i want to get your thoughts. guest: chrysler has admitted they are going to open a plant in china. they are going to manufacture jeeps in italy they are going to ship to china. why are we not manufacturing them in ohio? i think that is the issue that mitt romney, governor romney, was attempting to promote. the fact of the matter is that we have a substantial loss of automobile manufacturing jobs in ohio between 2008 when the 2011. we have not recovered some of those jobs. some of those jobs, we have recovered. to say that chrysler is not going to be producing jeeps in china is incorrect, because they have admitted that they are going to open a plant in china. they are in the process of doing the right now. >> you think governor romney could have done a better job in how he presented that ad? it has gotten a lot of a pushcart. vice-president biden called it "flagrantly dishonest." he said, >guest: i am not going to get into individual a

[applause] he wants sensible regulations, for the auto companies and to make sure we can get the auto companies on their feet and make sure trade is fair. he wants worker retraining to work better. that will keep auto jobs in ohio. and strengthen the industry. that is what mitt romney will do. fourths -- we're in the quarter and the score is tied. we're in the red zone. the momentum is on our side. will we be sure we take mitt romney over the goal line in the next eight days? ladies and gentlemen, the next president of the united states, mitt romney. >> thank you.
